JGP Submission Guidelines

Welcome to Jupiter Gardens Press. We publish three distinct lines of fiction and nonfiction. We pay royalties and do not ask for any fees from the author. We have extensive experience in the publishing industry and we want to be an author-friendly publisher with a great line-up of books.

We currently publish three distinct lines:

Jupiter Gardens Press - our original line includes fiction and nonfiction based on, or about, alternative spirituality. We will also publish fiction which attempts to answer or contemplate a question facing society, civilization, or humankind. This includes all genres except erotica.
Jupiter Gardens Press Thebe - this line includes all forms of science fiction and fantasy. We want to see everything from high fantasy to hard science fiction, cyberpunk, steampunk, magical realism, slipstream…if it’s science fiction or fantasy we want it!
Pink Petal Books - this imprint is for romance in all its forms. We welcome romance with all heat levels and in all subgenres. Novels published by Pink Petal Books focus on the character’s relationship, because we believe love is a beautiful thing. Full guidelines are available at www.pinkpetalbooks.com

We have merged Kittyhorse Publishing with Jupiter Gardens Press, and will publish children's and YA content so long as they meet our regular lines above. Please send them to the regular submission's address and indicate that the work is aimed at young adults or children.

If you would like to keep up to date with our book releases, please subscribe to our newsletter. Our release dates coincide with the full moon.

To submit your work for consideration, please email submissions(a)jupitergardens.com with a cover letter detailing your writing experience (if any, we do welcome new authors), and attach in RTF format, a 2-4 page synopsis, and the first three chapters. Our current response time is 2 to 4 weeks.

Some important highlights about our company and our contracts:

  • We pay 40% royalties on actual sales price for electronic book sales from our family of websites. We pay 40% of what we receive from third party distributors. Print books receive a royalty of 10% regardless of sales venue.
  • Non-fiction books generally go to print simultaneously with the electronic release. Print books, depending on genre, author history, and other factors may go into print at the time of electronic release. They will go to print no later than when certain modest sales levels have been reached by the electronic version of the book. If you have questions about our print policy, please email us. We would be happy to work with authors on a case-by-case basis if necessary.
  • Our contracts ask for electronic and print rights only. We may, at a future time, request audio rights, but this would be negotiated separately. The author retains all rights not specifically stated by the contract.
  • We are considered a non-subsidy, non-vanity publisher by the Romance Writers of America.
  • We utilize full distribution through Ingrams for our print books. We also aggressively pursue third party vendor relationships for our electronic books.
  • We welcome your questions! Please ask!

    Submission Call: Chronically Spiritual

Statistics abound when it comes to chronically ill patients. Many lack insurance. Many spend more days in the hospital. Quite a large percentage of elderly chronically ill individuals live alone. The studies, and the stories, focus on the physical aspects of chronic illness, and some are venturing into the emotional and mental aspects. The anthology, Chronically Spiritual, which will be published in December 2010, focuses on how living with a chronic illness affects an individual's spiritual life.

We welcome essays up to 10,000 words on how being chronically ill has affected your spiritual practice. Essays could cover the physical aspects, such as a diabetic who has to plan for cakes and ale, or someone with chronic fatigue syndrome no longer being able to dance at Sabbat gatherings. Or, they could deal with the emotional aspects, the feelings on the really bad days, that perhaps the deities have forsaken us. From the light-hearted to the serious, do not be afraid to send us your story.

We'd like to see a wide variety of illnesses and spiritual practices. Essays will be due by September 10, with all decisions made by the end of September. The book will be published in December from Jupiter Gardens Press.

Send your submission in its entirety, with a short bio, to: submissions@jupitergardens.com. Questions can be addressed to that same address. Payment will be royalties split among all contributors. We pay 40% royalties on gross cover price for all purchase direct from our family of websites, and 40% of what we receive from all third party distributors. We pay 10% royalties on all print copies, no matter where purchased.

Additional information added 05/24/2010. Due to questions received, we are currently looking at companion volumes dealing specifically with how mental illness affects spiritual practice, and how parenting with a chronically ill child affects spiritual practice. These companion volumes may not be released in December. Those releases may be staggered depending on numbers of submissions received. However, we welcome your essays on these topics to either be placed within the originally announced volume, or to be used in separate volumes. Pay rates for separate volumes would be the same in that all authors would split royalties received. Thank you for your emails and questions.
